- Mid-level smart phone competitors bet on low prices
A thorough Network World piece pinpoints the major takeaway from last week’s Mobile World Congress: Established brands like HTC, Sony and LG want to set themselves apart from less expensive products by competitors like ZTE and Huawei, but “as looks and hardware specifications are becoming more similar and software differentiation harder, having a better reputation is their last ace.”
Analysts cited in the story say HTC and LG unveiled a solid array of new smartphones, but that that may not be enough to shrug off highly established competitors like Apple and Samsung on the one side, and Chinese companies vying for sales with low prices on the other. (…)
