iPods Use Still Popular With Kids

Many parents aren't ready to shell out the extra monthly cash for even used cell phones and a phone contract. But kids still expect some form of digital entertainment, according to a recent survey, and iPods (or used iPods), are on the list.

Only about 17% of kids don't have an iPod to use, and those kids say they're missing out. While there's tons of stories about the entitlement problem young people have today, used iPods are certainly an affordable option for those kids who feel like they need an iPod to fit in with their peers.

Refurbished iPods are often indistinguishable from new ones, allowing kids to avoid social stigma while getting the toy they want most.

Plus, when they are ready for a cell phone (and cell phones can keep kids safe, tracking them with GPS or allowing them to safely complete afterschool activities and then get a ride home), they'll have learned from their used iPod. Drop it? You might break it. Lose it? Tough luck. Teaching kids responsibility is multi-faceted, and small gadgets like phones and refurbished iPods is one of those steps.

Of course, that doesn't mean you have to run out and buy your kids a used iPod. But if you do, know that there's always a buy back program if things don't work out.
