Make Sure You Update Your Used iPods, etc. To iOS 5

iOS 5 has been released, so make sure you update your used iPods, iPhones, and other gadgets to the latest software.

Updating software on used iPods, iPads, and more helps eliminate security vulnberabilities and ensure that downloaded apps and programs run smoothly, booth with the network and each other.

Sometimes people avoid software updates, but this can turn your used iPod into junk. Besides the fact that old softeare isn't maintained, accumulating updates means that when you finally come around to it, the thing crashes, stalls, or otherwise cries. At this point you may need refurbished iPods, etc., meaning 1) save what data you can to your computer, 2) wipe the used iPod, and 3) do a clean install.

If you keep up-to-date with the latest software, you can avoid having refurbished iPods (which are a lot of work for your own use!).

Not sure what to do? If your used iPod, iPhone, or iPad doesn't prompt you to update, check Apple's site for instructions, and to ensure youg iGadget is new enough.

The latest version of Apple's iPhone will have twice the processing power, so used iPods and iPhones may not be able to keep up with future updates, although many smaller updates (to apps, for example) should still be maintained.
