Make Sure To Upcycle Used Cell Phones
What is upcycling? It's recycling when the item is given a new purpose, in this case, used cell phones can be upcycled in a couple different ways. Other items that are commonly "upcycled" include soda caps and tabs (into jewelry, belts, and other decoration), wine corks (into wreaths, birdhouses, etc.).
Used cell phones can be sold, as with a Buy Back Program (non-carrier programs pay better for used cell phones!). While smart used cell phones have the most value, traditional style used cell phones are hardy and can live on for years.
If making money isn't up your alley, try donation. Used cell phones are cherished by soldiers, battered women sheltered, and needy families (who can rely on the ability to dial 911 even without a contract, or who can buy pay-as-you-go plans).
Whichever you choose, don't through your used cell phones away, even if theyre broken. Make sure to recycle when it finally dies. Used cell phones contain rare earth elements, copper (which is currently in HIGH demand) and can contaminate earth and water when dumped.
And don't just upcycle your used cell phones, there's plenty of other great "trash" that can still serve a purpose. We are, and must be, a frugal generation. It doesn't mean living without, just living smarter and more sustainably.
